Our bodies are composed of about 60 percent water. To stay hydrated we are recommended to drink 8 glasses of water each day which equals to about 2 liters. We have asked our panel members in a quick poll how much water they drink in average a day.
We need water in order to stay hydrated and be well-functionated. Water gives us energy and relieves fatigue. It helps us concentrate and focus better in our everyday. It reduces hunger and thereby our eating intake why it can promote weight loss. It also makes our skin look more fresh as it moisturizes our skin. Water is good for us in many ways. Our bodies are composed of about 60 percent water and we experience a greater need for water when exercising as we lose more water when sweating. In general, we should drink about 2 liters a day depending on our body size. We have asked the following question to our panel members in Ireland and the Nordics: “How much water do you drink in average a day?”
Between 53 percent (Norway) and 62 percent (Sweden) have answered that they drink between 1-2 liters of water a day in average. This makes the largest part in all panel countries. There are also a relatively large part who drink more than recommended and intake between 2-3 liters of water a day. Between 17 percent (Denmark) and 22 percent (Ireland and Finland) has answered this option. Maybe this is because they are doing more exercise or just need this amount in order to feel completely hydrated.
Further, there is a small amount who even drinks more than 3 liters a day. 2 percent in Denmark, 3 percent in Ireland, Sweden and Finland and 4 percent in Norway actually drinks more than 3 liters of water in average a day. At the same time there are a group of panel members drinking less than recommended. Between 12 percent (Sweden) and 19 percent (Denmark) have answered they drink less than 1 liter a day. Maybe they find it harder to concentrate compared to the members who drink more water. The reason why they do not drink the recommended amount could be many – time, forgetfulness or other. It may be that someone also finds water tasteless and prefer something else.
A good advice to always be able to stay hydrated is to always keep a bottle of water with you on the go – this way you always have quick and easy access to water. You can also add some lemon or lime to spice up the taste.
The result of this quick poll was maybe not that surprising as far most of the panel members drink the recommended amount of water – but still there are some who differ from the average. We appreciate all answers to our quick polls which you find on your personal member page. Log in here.
